A. Course Description:
Latin II covers the all the uses of the subjunctive mood plus advanced use of verbals, substantives, and complex sentence structures.
B. Course Objectives/Methods:
This course focuses on continued acquisition of vocabulary and the application of the subjunctive mood, infinitives, and participles in complex grammatical constructions. Classes are conducted using the Socratic method to encourage critical thinking skills.
C. Course Goals:
Students will be able to do the Following:
- Students will value language as a gift from God;
- Students will recognize the reciprocal impact between language and culture;
- Students will detect the general principles of language construction;
- Students will evaluate the lexical and linguistic relationships between Latin and English;
- Students will generate an appreciation for all great literature as they become involved in the original sources;
- Students will demonstrate greater poetic ability in writing and speaking;
- Students will relate the many influences of Latin and the Roman Empire to Western Civilization;
- Students will integrate knowledge of Latin with other disciplines studied;
- Students will develop the processes of induction and deduction through study of Latin
- Students will expand Latin and English vocabulary.
