A.    Course Description:

The content and questions of this book integrate geometry, probability and statistics together with algebra.  Pure and applied mathematics are also integrated throughout it.

B.    Course Objectives/Methods:

To introduce the student to the language of algebra; to help the student prepare for geometry and other mathematics; to help the student learn about the many uses of algebra in the real world and deal with mathematics around them.

C.    Course Goals:

Students will be able to do the following:

  • Carry out various algorithms
  • Develop and use mathematic properties and relationships
  • Apply mathematics in realistic situations
  • Represent or picture mathematical concepts
  • Communicate mathematical ideas with classmates through writing and oratory
  • At the end of this course the student will be able to communicate mathematical ideas using a variety of graphs; find the area and volume of various shapes and solve for "x".
